The UEM conducts risk assessment and epidemic investigation missions in support of WHO to health authorities in African countries.
Culicidal vector arboviruses are human and animal health problems in tropical countries of Africa south of the Sahara, South America and Asia. Dengue fever, Zika and chikungunya, Rift Valley fever are on the rise in the world. Yellow fever despite an effective vaccine remains very present in countries of tropical Africa and South America. The UEM has developed expertise in the assessment of entomological risk but also the investigation of arbovirus epidemics and is therefore constantly requested by WHO to support African countries in the field.
