The project seeks to improve the management of moderate acute malnutrition (MAM) by acting on intestinal infections and by exploring the interactions between malnutrition and modification of the intestinal microbiota. This pragmatic, randomized, open, multicenter trial is taking place in 4 countries: Madagascar, Central African Republic, Niger and Senegal. In total, 840 children suffering from moderate acute malnutrition receive three re-nutrition strategies by drawing lots: conventional flour, flour + antibiotic; flour + prebiotics. The expected duration of participation is 6 months, i.e. 12 weeks with product supplementation and 3 months of follow-up.
It is planned to evaluate the association between the intestinal microbiota, psychomotor development and malnutrition by carrying out an analysis of the data and samples collected and stored in the Pasteur Institutes of the 4 project countries.
