Research and Public Health

Research is the central pivot of IPD and health activities in Senegal constituting a major strategic orientation: ii) resistance of pathogens to anti-infectives, (ii) strategies for the control and prevention of infections which are attacked according to an integral multidisciplinary approach of microbiology, entomology, epidemiology, immunology and genetics.

In the field of public health, the IPD has 7 reference centers for the hemorrhagic fever virus, inter-country for polio and influenza, for the red virus and the rotavirus CNR for rabies and for enterobacteria.

In this national, regional and international context, the IPD provides its scientific and medical skills in the following areas:

Epidemiological surveillance,

Investigation and control of epidemics,

Support for national control programs,

Laboratory networks (WHO, national).

These skills are easily linked to scientific and medical research activities developed within the IPD. This link is an original of the IPD and responds to a desire for integrative research in the Charter of Pasteurian values shared by the RIIP institutes.
