Regional training workshop for ECOWAS member countries on monkeypox virus diagnosis
The West African Health Organization (WAHO) in collaboration with the Pasteur Institute of Dakar and the World Health Organization (WHO) is organizing a training workshop from 18 to 20 July 2022 on strategies for the diagnosis of monkeypox virus.
The training is aimed at experts from national reference laboratories of the 15 ECOWAS member countries and health professionals with training in virology and involved in epidemic disease diagnosis activities.
Workshop will provide, among other things:
1. General information on the virology, diagnosis & epidemiology of monkeypox virus.
2. Acquire knowledge & practical skills to perform routine diagnostic tests for suspected monkeypox virus infections using molecular techniques (PCR..)
3. Management of suspected monkeypox virus samples in the laboratory (biosafety rules)
4. Receive diagnostic tools (protocols, primers, probes, positive control...) to implement the test once back in their own laboratory.
