Launch of the rapid diagnostic test production platform at the Institut Pasteur in Dakar
In order to improve access to the diagnosis of epidemic and neglected diseases in Senegal and Africa, the Institut Pasteur de Dakar created the Diatropix initiative which is the first non-profit platform for the manufacture of fully dedicated rapid diagnostic tests. to epidemics with an economic model that makes them accessible, at cost price in African countries.
In collaboration with the Mérieux Foundation, the Institut de Recherche pour le Développement, the Foundation for Innovative and New Diagnostics (FIND), and two industrial partners (Mologic Ltd in the United Kingdom and BioMérieux in France), the Institut Pasteur in Dakar has therefore set up a platform for the production of rapid diagnostic tests to detect diseases linked to the virus such as coronavirus (COVID-19), Ebola, dengue, yellow fever, measles, rubella and meningitis.
However, the first product to be manufactured is the rapid diagnostic serological test for COVID-19, in this context of a pandemic.
This Monday, November 16, the Institut Pasteur in Dakar inaugurated DIATROPIX.
The ceremony was chaired by the Minister of Health and Social Action, Mr. Abdoulaye Diouf SARR in the presence of Mr. Philippe LALLIOT, Ambassador of the French Republic in Senegal, Ms. Victoria BILLING, Ambassador of the United Kingdom in Senegal, Mr. Stephan RÖKEN , Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Senegal and many guests.
